Our Story

/our_story

The Association of Language and Literacy Educators–Reading Sierra Leone (TALLE-RSL) is a registered non-governmental, non-profit organisation founded in 2004. It is driven by the belief that strong language and numeracy skills are essential to national development, with a core focus on improving the teaching and learning of these skills across Sierra Leone’s education system.

TALLE-RSL brings together language and numeracy educators from teacher training institutions, polytechnics, and universities to share experience through training, workshops, conferences, and research. Its work aligns with national education policies, including the 1991 Constitution and the 2010 Education Policy, which recognise language and literacy education as key to sustainable development.

TALLE-RSL Strategy for Empowerment and Sustainable Impact

We envision a just, inclusive, and empowered society where children, youth, women, and communities in Sierra Leone can realize their full potential. Achieving this vision requires breaking systemic barriers to education, skills development, social protection, and economic participation through innovative, community-driven, and evidence-based approaches.

TALLE-RSL’s strategic direction prioritizes advocacy, community engagement, research, partnerships, and institutional strengthening as key drivers of sustainable impact.

Our Strategic Objectives:

Strategic Objective 1: Expand access to quality education, skills training, and community development opportunities for children, youth, and women.

Strategic Objective 2: Promote research, data use, and evidence-based programming to inform inclusive policies and practical solutions.

Strategic Objective 3: Strengthen institutional capacity, governance, and operational effectiveness to ensure long-term sustainability and impact.

Through this strategy, TALLE-RSL reaffirms its commitment to inclusive development, community empowerment, and transformative change across Sierra Leone.
